The Girl Scouts of USA Small Watercraft Safety Training and workbook focuses on canoes, kayaks, and row boats. You will learn about small watercraft safety, basic water rescue, and moving water safety. Participants must be currently certified in First Aid and CPR and be able to swim. Participants may be required to regularly pick up canoes, kayaks, and supportive equipment to include paddles, that may independently and/or combined exceed 40 lbs. Participants must also be able to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, work with fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions consistent with watercraft techniques. Participants are required to enter and exit canoes without assistance.

Two choices for Small Watercraft Safety Training:

Full Price ($20 registration fee)- Facilitators that complete the course will be kept on an internal list of current facilitators but will not need to provide programming at the council level during the year. Internal list will not be for public use unless you indicate we can share you on our list.

 

Council sponsored ($20 value, $0 registration fee)- Facilitators that pass will be kept on an internal list of current facilitators and may be asked to assist in council provided programming up to 2 times per year. Internal list will not be for public use unless you indicate we can share you on our list.

 

All participants will need closed toe shoe, water shoes, or sandals and no loose-fitting clothing or jewelry. (Caged water sandals like Keens and Crocs are examples of acceptable footwear). All participants will need a bagged lunch and a full water bottle.

 

This training is for adults, age 18 and over. There are 2 available dates scheduled: September 16 and March 30.
