Join us for Small Watercraft Safety Training at Camp WaBak. The Girl Scouts of USA Small Watercraft Safety Training and workbook focuses on canoes, kayaks, and row boats. You will learn about small watercraft safety, basic water rescue, and moving water safety. Participants must be currently certified in First Aid & CPR and be able to swim. Participants may be required to regularly pick up canoes and kayaks and supportive equipment to include paddles that may independently and/or combined exceed 40 lbs. Participants must also be able to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, work with fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions consistent with watercraft techniques. Participants are required to enter and exit canoes without assistance.

Two choices for Small Watercraft Safety Training:

Full Price ($20 registration fee)- Facilitators that complete the course will be kept on an internal list of current facilitators but will not need to provide programming at the council level during the year. The internal list will not be for public use unless you indicate that we can share your information.

Council-sponsored ($20 value, $0 registration fee)- Facilitators that pass will be kept on an internal list of current facilitators and will be asked to assist in council-provided programming up to 2 times per year. The internal list will not be for public use unless you indicate that we can share your information.

All participants will need to wear closed-toe water shoes or sandals and no loose-fitting clothing or jewelry. (Caged water sandals like Keens and Crocs are examples of acceptable footwear). All participants will need a bagged lunch and a full water bottle.

*Please note that this is a safety and rescue training, not a canoe/kayak skills class.

Training takes place at Camp WaBak on September 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the cost is $20 for members, as stated in the options above.
