The outdoors and her!
Giggles, laughter, and songs are what you hear at camp! Campfires, s’mores, friends, and adventure are what girls’ experience. Whether girls learn to paddle a canoe, swim in a pool, ride a horse, take aim during archery, or create a masterpiece in arts & crafts, FUN is what happens.
Girls can pick a day camp, family weekends, specialty camps, or resident camp for their own experience. Some girls may venture out of camp and learn to catch a wave, hike a trail with llamas, backpacking, or whitewater rafting and more.
Girl Scouting has a long history of getting girls outdoors. However, today’s girls are spending less and less time outside. At Girl Scouts of South Carolinas - Mountains to Midlands, we have made getting girls back outside a priority in response to our own findings of She Sees the Future . We are striving to create and find new ways to connect girls to the outdoors and camp is a great way to start. The 2012 Girl Scout Research Institute report, More Than S’Mores: Successes and Surprises in Girl Scouts’ Outdoor Experiences shows that outdoor exposure is extremely beneficial for girls and that girls greatly enjoy the outdoor experiences they have in Girl Scouts.
