Welcome to our Volunteer Brand Toolkit! This webpage will give you a quick overview of our new verbal and visual standards. However, this is not a comprehensive list of all of new standards. If you encounter a branding issue that requires a more in-depth answer, please email our Marketing and Communications Department here.
New Girl Scout Boilerplate:
We Are Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenge—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of the class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them. To join us, volunteer, reconnect, or donate, visit gssc-mm.org.
The Girl Scout legacy is spirited and storied. To move our story forward, we use a voice that’s encouraging, emotive, thoughtful, inclusive, and bold. As Girl Scouts, we speak and show up distinctly. This way of speaking—our brand voice—is guided by our tenets. Think of our tenets as levers you can pull across all your written and verbal communications. In some situations, you may end up using all of them, but in other instances, only one or two work best to get your point across or inspire action. When applied consistently across communications, the tenets bring our voice to life in vibrant, authentic ways.
As you write, stay mindful of the following:
Example of new verbal standard:
You are what Girl Scouts is all about. Your dreams, ideas, and ambition are our DNA. Want to shoot a movie, build a robot, speak up for what you believe in, plant a garden, help others, or change a law? We’ve got all the tools you need. Is the world getting you down? We’re not only here to lift you up but also to guide you in growing the confidence to rise above. Whether you’re climbing to the top of a tree or to the top of your class, being a Girl Scout will get you there. Because Girl Scouts isn't just another activity—it’s a way of life. It’s part of who you are.
Girl Scouts is a vibrant, living, and constantly evolving community—and so is our visual identity. Our brand is not just a logo—it is a complete design system composed of a number of elements that work together to create a distinctive look and feel for all our communications.
Below are guidelines for using our new servicemark, color palette, typography, and shapes.
Servicemark
Girl Scouts of South Carolina—Mountains to Midlands now has an updated servicemark. Please download the new servicemark here. The servicemark has been provided to you in full color, all white, and all black and in formats for web/digital usage and for print usage.
It is imperative that we protect the integrity of our servicemark, which means never crowding it or jamming it in a corner. A minimum clear space of two Trefoils (see example below) is required between a council servicemark and any other element on a page.
Color Palette
See below for new color palette. This set of colors offers a broad range of options to achieve various moods and tones when designing for different audiences. The palette includes highest awards colors, grade level colors, and cookie colors—but these colors can now be used beyond those particular functions.
When using these new colors, keep in mind that green is one of our greatest equities. It should be used prominently in external communications, especially for the Trefoil. Two new shades of green support Girl Scout Green, adding variety, depth, and richness. Always consider the role of green when creating external communications.
Typography
Please use Palatino Linotype (alternatively Palatino on Macs) for all Girl Scout communications (flyers, social media graphics, posters, etc.). Going forward, please discontinue your use of all our previous typefaces including the Trefoil and Thin Mint fonts.
Shapes
Badges have always served as symbols of girls’ ambition. By wearing both badges and patches, girls express themselves and celebrate their achievements. These two tangible representations of girl ambition have been incorporated into the foundation of our design system. See and download these shapes here.
All shapes can scale, but some are more flexible than others. They are organized into three categories:
